Museums and exhibitions

The museums and the exhibitions are two of the best cards that counties of the North East of Romania count on.


The city of Iasi can be proud of having the biggest number of museums in Romania, reunited in two museum complexes.

The first is the Moldavia Museum Complex (inside the Palace of Culture of Iasi), structured on four sections: polytechnics, art (the biggest painting gallery in the country), history (here we find the Cucuteni Museum, the Union Museum of Kogalniceanu House, the Palace Al. I. Cuza of Ruginoasa, The Harlau Town Museum).

The second complex is the Museum of the Romanian Literature to which belong 11 museums and memorial houses. Here are some of the most important: the Memorial House “C. Negruzzi”, the Theatre Museum, the House of “Ion Creanga”, the House of “Vasile Pogor” (here it has been printed the first number of the magazine “Convorbiri literare”), the Memorial House “Vasile Alecsandri”, the Museum “Mihai Eminescu”, the Memorial House “Mihail Sadoveanu”.

It deserves mentioning also the Museum of Natural History of Iasi, where you can admire objects that belonged to the ruler A. I. Cuza, and also the mammoth and Sumatran rhinoceros bones donated by the metropolitan  Veniamin Costache.


The museums are one of the main attractions for the ones visiting this county.

“The top of the bill” is the “Stefan cel Mare” County Museum, which is also the youngest museum of Romania, it being established in 1974. It is structured on several sections: Ancient History and Archaeology, Medieval History, Modern and Contemporaneous  History, Culture and civilisation, Treasury- Numismatics – Medals, Ethnography and Popular Art, the Contemporary Art.

During the years, the Vaslui County Museum has hosted many exhibitions and projects with a wide thematic coverage: the caricature exhibition “The International Caricature Exhibition ” (2010),  the cultural project “Emil Racovita – Belgic. The Romanian – Belgian Connexion” (2010),  the symposium  “the Modern Romania and Alexandru Ioan Cuza” (2008).

On the territory of Vaslui you can find also other interesting museums: the Museum “Vasile Parvan” of Barlad, the Municipal Museum of Husi, the Museum Muntenii de Sus.


The generous offer of museums and exhibitions you can also find in Bacau. You do not have to miss the “Iulian Antonescu” Museum Complex, the Fish Pond (with exhibitions of pigeons, exotic birds, exotic fishes, fowls, orchard  animals), “Victor Anestin” Astronomic Observatory (with permanent exhibition “From Earth up to the Stars”), the Museum of Natural Sciences, Museum of Art (there are exhibited works done by Horia Bernea, Corneliu Baba, Theodor Pallady, Alexandru Ciucurencu etc).

In the county of Bacau there are also some memorial houses deserving to be visited: the “George Bacovia” Memorial House, the “Nicu Enea” Memorial House, the “Ion Borcea” Memorial House.


The Museum of Art of the Botosani county host many national artistic patrimony signed by Stefan Luchian, Nicolae Tonitza, Octav Bancila. The oldest home of the South East Europe, and also objects since the Palaeolithic and Neolithic are the main attractions of the Botosani County Museum. In Dorohoi and Saveni you can find two museums: the Museum of Natural Sciences, respectively the Museum of Archaeology.

Four more objectives deserve to be marked in this county: the “Mihai Eminescu” Memorial House (Ipotesti), the “George Enescu” Memorial House (Liveni), the “Nicolae Iorga” Memorial House, the “George Enescu” Memorial Museum(Dorohoi).


The Museum of Ethnography of Vatra Dornei is  a first objective that a tourist arriving in the county of Suceava has to have in view.  Here, there are 12 permanent exhibits where you can admire popular costume objects, masks, painted eggs, elements of architecture, ceramics, fabrics etc.

In Falticeni at least three museums deserve to be visited: the Gallery of Remarkable Persons, the “Ion Irimescu” Art Museum (hosts the biggest author collection of the country), The “Mihai Bacescu” Waters Museum. Other objectives: the Museum of Natural Sciences of Vatra Dornei, the County Museum of Suceava,  the Bucovina Museum Complex, the Museum of Natural Sciences of Suceava, the Bucovina Village Museum.


The Neamt county has 15 museums belonging to the Neamt County Museum Complex.  Their patrimony has 3000.000 pieces (history, art, memoirs, archaeology, ethnography, natural sciences).

The most important archaeological collection belonging to the Eneolithic Culture of Cucuteni is exhibited in the Museum of History and Archaeology of Piatra Neamt. The tourists have also other alternatives: the Museum of History of Roman, the Museum of History and Ethnography of Bicaz, the Museum of History and Ethnography of Targu Neamt, the “Calistrat Hogas” Memorial Museum of Piatra-Neamt, the Memorial Museum of “Ion Creanga” Humulesti, the  “Veronica Micle” Memorial House of Targu-Neamt,  the Art Museum of Piatra-Neamt, the Art Museum of Roman etc.
