The Durau Resort of the Neamt county is an oasis of civilisation in the wildness of the Ceahlau Massif.


The locality is situated at 800 meters altitude and administratively belongs to the commune of Ceahlau, which is about six kilometres away.


Still as localisation element, the resort is at nine kilometres from the Izvorul Muntelui accumulation lake, known as the Bicaz Lake, in a glade down the Ceahlau Mountains.


You can go to Durau if you like the winter sports, here there is the Poiana Soarelui(Sun Glade), ideal for sliding and skiing, both beginners and advanced. There is also a ski drag on this track which elevates on a 350 meters distance.


But you can come to Durau  also in summer time if you need only rest and maybe a therapy. The mountain clime but also the allergens free and full of ozone air are perfect if you want to get rid of an anaemia, asthenic neurosis or you just want to recover after a hard exam or prolonged physical effort.


The Durau resort is also called the ,,Paradisul Vanatorilor”(The Hunters Paradise) because in the woods near by, there are organised stags, bears and wild boar hunting,  if you are fans of this kind of criminal entertainment .


For the mountain fans, from Durau, you can go hiking to Ocolasu Mare Peak – 1907 m and Toaca Peak – 1904 m. On one of the paths climbing on the Ceahlau Mountain, the tourists can admire the Duruitoarea Waterfall, with an impressive water jet and deafening rumour. After 1990, a skete  on the Ceahlau plate.


Because the massif is a protected area, you pay the entrance in the Ceahlau National Park – 5 lei.


Other interesting objective in the area is the Natural Reservation of Aurochs of Ceahlau, situated on the Bistrita valley.


Being in the middle of Moldavia, leaving from Durau resort, you can also make ecumenical tourism. Near by there are the famous monasteries: Secu, Neamt, Varatec and Agapia. More, even in the resort, there is a small church painted by the famous Nicolae Tonitza, and also a monastery built after the Revolution, where the tourists can relax in a gorgeous garden, full of roses.


The Durau Resort is a typical Romanian one, where the three and four stars board and lodging places are combined with the grey ones, typically communist. More, there are wood rustic cottages, restaurants and pubs, saunas and sport fields. Practically, every tourist is satisfied.


For accommodation or meal, you can find prices based on your pretensions – you can find rooms for 100 lei but also for lei 250.


You can arrive to Durau on DN 15 (Turda-Tg.Mures-Piatra Neamt-Bacau) with derivation on DJ 155 F of Bistricioara (16 km) or from Bicaz-dam (28 km).
