The National Festival of Trout

The event takes place during the period August 14, 2011- August 15, 2011.

For a few days, the National Festival of Trout of Ciocanesti focuses the attention on Bucovina, gathering the commune’s inhabitants, the participants from all the country, but also from abroad. For the festival, the holiday of “Saint Mary ” has been chosen because this day coincides with the Patron of the Church of Ciocanesti, when everyone dresses with holiday clothes and the peasants as all the Bucovina inhabitants are  happy of having guests. The Festival is an occasion to celebrate the holiday of “Saint Mary” in the middle of the nature, surrounded by popular music, dance and good humour. The event pays respects not only to the trout but also to the traditional popular art, to the popular costume and gastronomy of this region. On such occasion, we can see culinary competitions (the biggest exhibit of trout meals cooked in the boarding houses of Bucovina, the biggest fish borsch, the biggest porridge, where 1,000 trout borsch portions are prepared with trout from the Golden Bistrita waters) and the contest of trout fishing. In the festival opening we can see: the parade of horse men and descend with rafts on the Bistrita water, as many years was happening. The evening is impatiently expected because on the road of Tatars, the “border guards” descend with torches. The National Festival of Trout celebrates the cleanliness because the trout is the king of the clean mountain waters.
